The Passage of Time $1440 by Ann Land
Ann's art techniques have evolved using very fine pure silica sand with acrylics and mixed media on the canvas surface to create texture. The sand crystals ' catch ' the light giving the image luminosity and texture - enticing the viewer to touch the surface. This innovative method of painting she has named – ‘A Dialectic Aqua Technique ‘.
As explained by Ann "Sand can generate an effect of light to create space that expands forward and outward as well as illusional space within. Sand lends a soft transition dents to lights - graduated tones can create form within the confines of the canvas surface."
Ann’s career as a Health Professional for the NT Department of Health (1983 – 1993) gave her the opportunity to fly over the top end viewing vast areas of tracks, undulated land and ancient earth colours. Flights back and forth from Perth to Darwin several times a year continue to inspire her using the aerial perspective for her impressions of the landscape. Camping trips throughout Western Australia also provide closer views of the landscape to assist in studying the natural hues and to collect sand for her compositions.
t is unique and always evolving as she explores new processes using the best Australian paints and finishes to ensure a final stable surface.
